The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.

About the role

As a Principal Salesforce Developer, you will provide technical leadership in the design, development, and optimisation of solutions across our Salesforce ecosystem. Leveraging deep expertise in Salesforce architecture and development, you will guide teams in translating complex business needs into strategic, scalable technical solutions. Your leadership will help shape best practices across customisation, integration, and automation, ensuring high-quality outcomes. Additionally, you will drive continuous platform improvement, mentor team members, and stay at the forefront of Salesforce innovation and trends.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead Design and Development of Salesforce Solutions
  • Work with Product, Architecture, and senior stakeholders to define strategic technical approaches
  • Design and develop complex, scalable solutions across multiple Salesforce instances
  • Champion best practice development and architectural standards
  • Lead the modernisation, support, and upgrade of key Salesforce systems
• Quality Assurance and Governance
  • Oversee technical quality through code reviews, solution walkthroughs, and best practice adoption
  • Guide teams in implementing robust testing strategies in collaboration with Quality Engineers
• Technical Leadership and Mentoring
  • Mentor and coach developers at all levels
  • Define and maintain technical standards, development guidelines, and architectural principles
  • Lead technical design sessions and oversee solution delivery
• Strategic Collaboration
  • Act as a key technical liaison across product, business, and platform stakeholders, demonstrating strong business acumen to align technical solutions with organisational objectives
  • Collaborate with Enterprise and System Architects to ensure alignment with broader digital strategies
• Documentation and Knowledge Management
  • Drive the creation of technical documentation and reusable assets
  • Ensure documentation supports future scalability and cross-team understanding
• Production and Platform Oversight
  • Lead resolution of critical production issues
  • Drive platform stability, performance, and long-term scalability initiatives
• Deployment and CI/CD (GitHub)
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or other GitHub-integrated tools
  • Ensure code is automatically tested, reviewed, and deployed through structured workflows from development to production
  • Champion best practices in version control, branching strategy, and deployment automation

Qualifications & Experience

• Extensive demonstrated expertise in Salesforce development across multiple instances, including deep knowledge of Salesforce development best practice, Apex, LWC,  OmniStudio, and Salesforce platform-level architecture
• Strong experience integrating Salesforce with external systems using REST/SOAP APIs.
• Solid experience across core Salesforce Clouds (Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, Public Cloud) and proven delivery skills in Experience Cloud
• Advanced Salesforce certifications aligned to your areas of specialisation (e.g. Application Architect, System Architect, or equivalent)
• Proven experience leading and optimising delivery across the SDLC in complex agile environments, including shaping technical strategy and standards

This is a fixed term role available until 31 December 2027. The position is only open to applicants with relevant rights to work in Australia.
