 About us 

The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.  
 

About the role 
This role sits within Consumer Affairs Victoria and reports to the Team Manager, Investigations and Compliance. The Lead Investigator will have background and experience in leading investigations culminating in enforcement interventions (including submission of briefs of evidence for legal proceedings in the criminal, civil, and tribunal jurisdictions), using a range of risk-based compliance and enforcement tools and approaches. The role includes leading complex investigations, providing guidance to staff, contributing to the strategic direction of Investigations and Compliance and participating in projects targeted at identifying non-compliance within specific areas of consumer law.

About you 

To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate: 

  • Technical expertise: Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of legislative enforcement activities, particularly in relation to regulation. Demonstrated ability to conduct and lead complex civil and/or criminal investigations and compile briefs of evidence in line with the AGIS standards, under minimal supervision.

Delivers tangible business outcomes as a result of critically evaluating problems from multiple perspectives and delivering effective solutions. Translates strategies into programs or projects that enables achievement of outcomes required; defines governance e.g., success measures, roles and responsibilities, progress monitoring) required to manage risks and maximise probability of success
  • Authentic relationships: Demonstrated ability to influence and persuade, gains agreement to proposals and ideas; build behind the scenes support for ideas to ensure buy-in and ownership; uses chains of indirect influence to achieve outcomes; involves experts or other third parties to strengthen case. Possesses strong interpersonal skills, can detect the underlying concerns, interests or emotions that lie behind what is being said and done; presents as genuine and sincere when dealing with others; projects an objective view of another’s positions; uses understanding of individuals to get the best outcomes for the person and organisation.

Mandatory requirements

  • Certificate IV in Government (Investigations) or equivalent is essential.
  • A minimum of three years previous investigative and enforcement experience, particularly in the preparation of briefs of evidence, is preferred.
  • A strong compliance background is also highly regarded.
  • A current Driver’s Licence is essential.
