About the Branch/Group

The purpose of this group is to make it easier for customers and businesses to engage with government. It is accountable for strategy and policy development, regulatory design, sector support and program design and the delivery of regulatory services to – and in the best interests of – Victorians. It aims to provide consistently great customer experiences in the delivery of scalable, efficient and effective services. Managing the delivery of services with a balance of expertise and speed, while driving the digital transformation of those services.

About the Role

The Program Officer is part of a dedicated team that is responsible for the delivery of a range of key funding programs for local government on behalf of other Victorian Government Departments and the Commonwealth Government. These include programs that support councils and community organisations in the delivery of services and infrastructure.

The Program Officer will also work as part of the team to deliver a range of Ministerial and executive forums and other stakeholder engagement activities.

The Program Officer will work effectively and efficiently with stakeholders within the Sector Engagement and Program Delivery Division, and with key stakeholders across the department, other government departments and agencies, peak bodies and the local government sector. The Program Officer has well-developed written communication skills and develops advice to stakeholders on program issues, options and solutions as well as preparing Ministerial briefings and correspondence.

Key Accountabilities

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  1. Accountability and Frameworks: Resolves operational service delivery problems consistent with program objectives
  2. Communication: Prepares reports, briefs and correspondence on complex issues that impact at program or organisational level. 
  3. Policy and Projects: Manages projects, usually under limited direction.
  4. Operational Service Delivery: Undertakes complex or technical investigations and makes recommendations for action.
  5. Knowledge and Proficiency: Authoritative in application of processes.

Mandatory requirements

  • An ability to support the Department’s emergency management response as required.
  • Current Driver Licence.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required (the specific nature of this will be subject to individual discussion and will aim to balance work and personal needs).
