As our Senior Adviser, Communication and Engagement, you’ll play a key role in shaping how Victorians experience government — providing expert advice and leadership on best-practice communication and engagement across the full project lifecycle, including strategy and planning through to delivery and launch. 

From high-profile announcements to community-facing campaigns, your work will support major programs and reach diverse audiences across the state. You’ll help ensure our approach and materials are clear, compelling and support understanding, trust and adoption.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Develop and deliver high-quality communication and engagement strategies and activities to support best practice approaches and identify opportunities to promote the department’s work.
  2. Provide strategic and best practice advice on communication and engagement priorities, issues, risks and processes to ensure a consistent and coordinated approach that protects the reputation of DGS.
  3. Build strong and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to influence outcomes and strengthen strategic communication and engagement.
  4. Develop communication content for a range of channels and audiences, including to support engagement activities, that clearly communicates government objectives and impact, and to garner stakeholder understanding and support.
  5. Collaborate with business areas to undertake horizon scanning to identify stakeholder needs, interests and emerging issues, and provide analysis and recommendations to manage identified risks and ensure communication materials are appropriate and responsive.
  6. Support the design and delivery of communication and engagement activities to ensure a smooth experience for stakeholders, including helping to set up consultation activities such as meetings, workshops or roundtables.
  7. Practise cultural safety by helping to create environments, relationships and processes that people can feel safe, valued and able to participate.
  8. Provide surge support for other divisional and whole of Victorian government priorities and work.

 

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience, at a senior level, in communication and engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of IAP2.

This is a fixed term role available for a period of 12 months. This position is only open to applicants with relevant rights to work in Australia.
