Senior Investigator, Investigations & Compliance

 

About us 

The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.  
 

About the role 
This role sits within Consumer Affairs Victoria and reports to the Team Manager, Investigations & Compliance. The Senior Investigator (VPS 4) is responsible for conducting investigations into significant breaches of consumer law and to contribute to compliance and enforcement actions, including Court and Tribunal actions using the department’s integrated compliance and enforcement approach. The role also includes providing guidance and expertise to less experienced colleagues.

About you 

To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate: 

  • Technical expertise: Demonstrated ability to compile briefs of evidence and enforcement materials in line with AGIS standards and following policy and procedures. Relevant knowledge and/or demonstrated experience in legislative enforcement activities particularly in relation to consumer. Knowledge of and experience conducting investigations across criminal, civil and tribunal jurisdictions.
  • Personal attributes: Ability to give and receive frank and honest feedback and advice. Listens when ideas are challenges. Accepts changed priorities without undue discomfort and responds quickly to change. Holds self and team accountable towards being inclusive and takes corrective action when behaviours displayed do not promote inclusion.

  • Enabling delivery: Can think critically and solve problems, through analysing available ideas and taking action in consultation with others. Defines tasks to be delivered to meet agreed outcomes, coordinates and guides others in the execution of work activities, monitors progress of tasks against plans and takes corrective action when required.
  • Authentic relationships: Possess strong interpersonal skills, can proactively engage with others and see things from other’s point of view and confirm understanding. Tailors communications according to audience and audience preference and adapts style and tone to influence and persuade others and link ideas to other’s values, needs and goals.

Mandatory requirements

  • Minimum 2 years previous investigative experience or enforcement experience, particularly in relation to preparing briefs of evidence, is essential
  • Certificate IV (Government Investigations) or equivalent is essential
