About the role

This is an Ongoing fulltime position.

Across the Barwon South West and Grampians regions, the Statutory Planning Officer assesses and responds to enquiries, consents and referrals for planning permit applications, within statutory time limits to ensure the efficiency and safety of the Transport Network exercising delegated powers on behalf of the Head Transport for Victoria.

This role assesses statutory referrals and planning enquiries that affect the transport network and provides clear planning advice to staff, the public, local councils, the tourism industry and community groups. The position supports decisions about land use and development near roads and transport infrastructure and helps process approvals for third-party works on the road network. It may also assist with submissions to planning hearings. The role works closely with the Statutory Planning Team and manages records and tasks to keep work on track. Success helps ensure the transport network remains safe, efficient and well planned.

 

What we’re looking for (Selection Criteria)

You’re someone who:

• Enjoys understanding how the transport network works and has practical experience with public transport operations and service delivery.

• Can identify, assess, and manage risks across areas like asset management, environment, OH&S, estimating, and public safety, ensuring compliance with policies and legislation.

• Can lead asset and project delivery activities, applying engineering and asset lifecycle knowledge to solve complex problems and integrate assets effectively.

 • Builds strong stakeholder relationships, influences outcomes, and collaborates to manage competing needs and resolve issues.

• Drives improvement and innovation, spotting opportunities to enhance processes, efficiency, and outcomes while adapting to change.

Qualifications and experience

You’ll bring:

– Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or experience relevant to the role. A bachelor or post graduate degree in urban and regional planning, land use planning or related discipline will be highly regarded (desirable).

– Driver’s license (without any restriction which preclude the incumbent from performing the inherent requirements of the position and which cannot be reasonably accommodated by the Department) (mandatory).

Pre-employment checks and employment conditions

Relevant pre-employment screening and reference checks will be required.

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa necessary for the nature of the position.
