About us
At the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP), we create thriving places and connected communities. By bringing together transport, planning, land use, precinct and policy functions in one department, we deliver better outcomes for all Victorians. Together with our portfolio agencies, we plan, build, operate and maintain the state’s transport and land systems.

About the team
Transport Services keeps Victoria moving by delivering safe, reliable and accessible transport infrastructure and services.
Within the Hume Loddon Mallee division, the Movement and Safety team works across northern Victoria — from Shepparton and Bendigo to the Victorian Alps — to improve the efficiency and safety of the transport network. The team partners with councils, communities and stakeholders to find practical, place-based solutions that help people and goods move safely and smoothly.

About the role
As the Movement and Safety Officer, you’ll play a key role in identifying and delivering solutions that improve road safety and traffic flow across the region. You’ll assess and respond to road safety and traffic management issues, evaluate event applications, and contribute to the delivery of minor safety treatments.

You’ll use your analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret data, apply Safe System principles and make informed recommendations that improve network efficiency. Collaboration is central to the role — you’ll work closely with councils, internal teams and the community to ensure solutions meet local needs and align with DTP’s broader objectives.

About you
To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • Sound analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to apply technical and policy frameworks to practical issues.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, timely advice.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to problem solving, with a focus on safety and continuous improvement.
  • A driver’s licence (mandatory).
A qualification or experience in civil or transport engineering/planning will be highly regarded.
