SprayLine Road Services (SRS) is a commercialised branch within the Network Operations Division of the Department of Transport and Planning providing road maintenance services, construction and associated civil works, bituminous spray sealing and line marking to DTP, other state road authorities, municipal councils, and private industry. SRS delivers services locally within the communities and is committed to ensuring quality, innovative and sustainable outcomes. SRS performs a key role as an internal provider to DTP, providing emergency response, maintaining organisational capability and supporting DTP in being an informed purchaser.

About the Role

This is a Fixed Term Position until 31 December 2025.

In this role you will become an integral member of our line marking and bituminous spray sealing crews undertaking a variety of road maintenance activities using a range of specialised plant and equipment and processes under general supervision and perform manual labour-intensive tasks in accordance with established safety, environmental and quality procedures.

Overtime and working away from home when needed are critical requirements of this role to deliver contracted works. Reimbursement for living away and overtime are at or above award rates with SRS providing Bed and Breakfast (where available) in suitable accommodation when working more than 1 hour from the base depot.

Whilst this role is primarily based at Gillies Street Depot, Benalla you may occasionally be required to work from other locations across the state of Victoria based on the operational needs of the broader SRS business

The standard hours for this position are between 6.00am to 6.00pm, however you may be required to undertake out of standard hours work as required with prior notice.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities

As a key team member of the SRS Surfacing Delivery team, you will be responsible for contributing to the following outcomes:

  • Contribute to the cost effective, timely and quality delivery of spray sealing and line marking services aligned with the requirements of contracts and performance-based agreements.

  • Be reasonably available to provide after-hours emergency response state-wide.
  • Responsiveness to assist the broader SRS teams situated across Victoria.

Key Selection Criteria

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will effectively execute maintenance and inspection tasks in line with Traffic Management Plans and safety procedures, while maintaining accurate project records and using approved tools. They will apply foundational critical thinking to resolve problems using guidelines or by consulting supervisors, and contribute to continuous improvement through quality-focused work and innovative suggestions. Additionally, they will demonstrate a solid understanding of relevant policies and procedures, applying them to daily tasks and supporting business case development when needed.

On a personal level, the candidate will demonstrate flexibility and adaptability by responding well to changing priorities and collaborating effectively across teams. They will show self-awareness by understanding the impact of their emotional responses in the workplace and using feedback to assess and improve their performance. Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

    • Current Victorian Drivers Licence
    • Current Medium Rigid Truck Licence (Medium Rigid or higher)
    • Current Construction Induction White Card
    • Current Traffic Management Ticket
    • Current First Aid Certificate
    • Working knowledge of computer tablets / mobile devices.

Desirable

    • Certificate III in Civil Construction
    • Understanding of Asset Maintenance Management Systems
    • Chainsaw & Polesaw training
    • Skid Steer training.
