About the role
We are currently seeking to fill two (2) Ongoing fulltime positions for the Statutory Planner role (11201 and 11213) based in Benalla (North Eastern Victoria) These roles fall within DTP’s Transport Services division as delegated functions under the Head, Transport for Victoria.
The Statutory Planner provides planning advice on developments and land use proposals that may affect the transport network. The role assesses planning applications, transport impact assessments and planning scheme amendments, ensuring transport considerations are integrated into planning decisions and comply with Victorian legislation. Referrals to this unit typically emanate from Clause 52.29 and 66.02-11of the Planning Scheme (among other projects).
Key responsibilities include reviewing planning referrals, advising on road safety, traffic management and access matters, engaging with councils and stakeholders, and providing clear recommendations on complex applications. The role also contributes to strategic planning projects, prepares correspondence and briefing notes, builds strong stakeholder relationships, and ensures statutory deadlines are met.

Has statutory planning and/or engineering (traffic safety) knowledge/experience and can provide sound advice on both routine and complex planning matters.

Communicates clearly and confidently, adapting messages to different audiences and influencing positive outcomes.

Builds and maintains effective relationships with stakeholders, understanding their needs and managing issues constructively.

Demonstrates strong interpersonal, organisational and time-management skills, consistently meeting statutory deadlines.

Thinks strategically, aligning day-to-day work with broader organisational, transport and community objectives.

Qualifications and experience
You’ll bring:

Relevant tertiary qualification in Statutory Planning or Traffic and Transport Engineering, and/or equivalent professional experience.

Knowledge of traffic and transport planning principles, including the ability to assess Transport Impact Assessment Reports, with experience in statutory planning and growth area development desirable.

Current driver’s licence and willingness to undertake occasional travel to regional and rural Victoria.
