About the role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Surveillance Officer to provide leadership and technical guidance in the surveillance and assurance of road maintenance activities across the contract network. In this role, you will oversee surveillance operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, contract standards, and quality expectations, while supporting the delivery of safe and reliable road infrastructure outcomes.
You will act as the primary point of contact for Surveillance Officers, providing mentoring, coaching, and operational support to build capability and promote consistent surveillance practices across the team. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will contribute to quality assurance, compliance monitoring, issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What we’re looking for (Selection Criteria)
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in road network surveillance, maintenance auditing, and quality assurance within a road asset management or infrastructure environment. You will possess a strong understanding of road maintenance requirements, including OH&S, traffic management, environmental compliance, and the Road Management Act/Plan.
You will be a collaborative leader with the ability to mentor and develop others, coordinate surveillance activities, provide sound technical advice, and resolve operational issues. Strong judgement, problem solving skills, and experience using asset management systems and maintenance applications will be essential. Above all, you will be committed to continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and delivering high quality outcomes for road users and stakeholders.

Qualifications and experience
- Experience in road maintenance (Mandatory)
- Technical skill in a wide range of areas including standards, specifications, Road Management Act requirements, traffic management, and safety.
- Competency using system-based applications on a tablet or similar.
- Experience in field inspection or quality assurance activities.
