About the role

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Surveillance Officer to support the delivery of safe, compliant, and high quality road maintenance outcomes across the network. In this role, you will conduct surveillance and assurance activities to ensure maintenance works are delivered in accordance with regulatory requirements, VRMC Standards, and established quality expectations.

Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will monitor and audit routine maintenance activities, identify opportunities for improvement, and contribute to the preservation of road and roadside assets. You will play an important role in promoting consistent surveillance practices, maintaining strong safety and environmental standards, and supporting a positive team culture through collaboration and knowledge sharing.

 

What we’re looking for (Selection Criteria) 

The successful candidate will have knowledge of, or experience in, road network surveillance, maintenance auditing, or quality assurance within a road asset management, maintenance, or infrastructure environment. You will have an understanding of the requirements of the Road Management Act/Plan and the principles of monitoring and auditing routine maintenance activities.

You will possess sound knowledge of OH&S, traffic management, and environmental requirements for road works, along with experience using asset maintenance systems, applications, and databases. A collaborative approach, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement are essential. You will be someone who values teamwork, shares knowledge openly, and takes pride in delivering quality outcomes for road users and stakeholders.

Qualifications and experience 

  • Experience in road maintenance or civil construction.
  • Technical skill in a wide range of areas including standards, specifications, Road Management Act requirements, traffic management, and safety.
  • Competency using system-based applications on a tablet or similar.
  • Experience in field inspection or quality assurance activities.
