About the role

The Sustainability and Environment Officer provides environmental and sustainability advice across DTP regional projects. The role supports environmental investigations, planning, assessment and delivery, ensuring projects comply with State and Federal legislation and achieve positive environmental outcomes for government and local communities.

 

The role requires independent judgement to review environmental data, manage biodiversity assessments and environmental requirements, and support projects during and after construction. It also promotes sustainable practices, develops initiatives to minimise environmental harm, and builds effective relationships with internal teams, government agencies, contractors and the community. The role requires someone proactive, adaptable and comfortable working in a changing environment.

  • Brings strong environmental expertise, applying legislation, policies, standards and best practice to promote compliance, sustainability and minimal environmental harm.
  • Uses sound critical thinking and problem-solving skills, interpreting guidelines, assessing risks and making informed decisions, including where further information or advice is required.
  • Collaborates effectively with stakeholders and experts, building strong partnerships to understand needs, share knowledge and achieve timely, practical outcomes.
  • Delivers environmental projects effectively, coordinating tasks, monitoring progress and taking corrective action to ensure agreed outcomes are achieved.
  • Is adaptable, resilient and future-focused, responding positively to changing priorities, embracing new ideas and staying current with emerging technologies and best practice.

Qualifications and experience 

You’ll bring: 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in an environmental discipline, or another relevant qualification with 3+ years’ environmental experience (mandatory), and a current Australian driver’s licence (mandatory).
  • Experience managing environmental requirements, including preparing consultant briefs and reviewing environmental reports and documentation.
  • Experience in road construction and/or vegetation assessment, with Vegetation Quality Assessment Accreditation desirable.

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa necessary for the nature of the position.
