About the role
This is a Part time (.6) Fixed Term Position until March 2027 - Bendigo or Benalla
The Strategic Advisor ensures the Executive Director is well positioned to make informed decisions and provide effective advice on a range of topics across the division’s portfolio. You will achieve this by providing the Executive Director with timely analysis and recommendations on strategic initiatives, divisional priorities and complex matters. In this role you will ensure issues and activities are followed through to completion to ensure outcomes are achieved.
The role is also responsible for leading the division’s response to corporate activities including risk management, planning and business continuity, financial management, ministerial correspondence and general reporting requirements.
Position accountabilities
- Provided authoritative and expert strategic and technical advice and support to senior executives.
- Lead and manage a range of corporate activities including ministerial correspondence, budget and financial management and reporting, records and document management, purchasing and procurement, business planning, risk management, local IT systems support, and occupational health and safety.
- Manage the group’s compliance with corporate and legislative requirements, policies and standards.
- Lead collaborative work across the Division.
- Manage, develop and implement business systems and procedures which contribute to effective operation of the division’s shared business service function.
- Established and maintained constructive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Provided effective leadership, people management and support to the team..
- Promoted and supported safe, inclusive and flexible team operations.
Key Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role, you will bring accomplished strategic planning capability, an ability to coach others and engage senior stakeholders to shape and deliver a clear, future-focused vision. You think at a whole-of-system level, scanning internal and external environments to identify emerging trends, risks and opportunities, and translating strategic priorities into practical plans and day-to-day actions for teams and individuals.
You foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, using insight into client and stakeholder needs to design systems that enhance quality, efficiency and effectiveness. Your critical thinking and problem-solving skills enable you to work across government and at senior levels to develop sustainable, long-term solutions to complex issues.
With strong business and commercial acumen, you drive value for money and return on investment, using economic indicators to inform decisions, manage risk and improve organisational performance. You also excel in stakeholder management, navigating competing interests and facilitating innovative solutions that deliver shared outcomes.

Qualifications and experience
Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or extensive experience in a similar role
