The Communications and Customer Experience Division supports the Department of Transport and Planning to deliver the Government’s transport and precincts agenda through clear, genuine and targeted communication. We innovate in engagement approaches to better connect people and communities with projects that matter.
About the role
This is a backfill position until 30 June 2027.
Based in Ballarat or Geelong, the Communications and Stakeholder Advisor will deliver communications and engagement on road, active transport and public transport projects across the Grampians and Barwon South West regions. You’ll take a strategic partnering approach, working with colleagues across communications and Transport Services to ensure communities are informed, engaged and able to contribute to projects that impact them.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for a skilled communicator with experience in planning and delivering engagement and communications in complex or multi-stakeholder environments. Success in this role relies on your ability to develop high-quality materials, manage stakeholder relationships, mitigate risks, and deliver projects on time. Strong critical thinking, customer focus and the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences will be key to your impact.

Position accountabilities
You will:
• Develop and deliver high-quality engagement plans and communication materials.
• Undertake stakeholder mapping and analysis to inform strategies and mitigate risks.
• Deliver communications activities to agreed timeframes and quality standards.
• Build strong relationships across the Department and sector partners.
• Maintain accurate records and support evaluation processes.
Qualifications and experience
Mandatory: Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in communications, engagement, public relations, or a similar discipline.
