About the role
This is a Fixed Term Position until 5 July 2027
As a Senior Transport Planner, you will play a pivotal role in shaping integrated land use and transport outcomes across the Barwon South West and Grampians regions. Working within the Transport Strategy team, you’ll lead complex regional planning initiatives that support housing growth, renewable energy development and economic outcomes.
You’ll manage a team of planners while delivering multiple projects, contributing to strategic transport planning, and ensuring the transport system meets current and future demands. This role also represents the Head, Transport for Victoria function in key planning forums, influencing regional and state-wide decision-making for the transport system.

We’re seeking a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and proven experience in transport or land use planning.
You’ll bring the ability to manage competing priorities across complex, long-term projects while maintaining a clear focus on outcomes. Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, as you’ll work across State and local government, private sector and community groups.
You thrive in collaborative environments, build partnerships, and influence decision-making through well-developed strategic insights. Experience leading teams and navigating multidisciplinary environments will be highly valued.

Qualifications and experience
You’ll bring a strong foundation in transport or land use planning, supported by a relevant tertiary qualification and demonstrated experience delivering strategic planning outcomes. Your ability to synthesise complex data into clear, evidence-based strategies will be key, alongside your capability to lead and develop high-performing teams. You’re adept at building relationships, negotiating outcomes and representing organisational interests in formal settings. A proactive, solutions-focused mindset, combined with sound judgement and adaptability, will enable you to drive innovative and practical transport planning solutions across regional Victoria.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in transport or land use planning (mandatory), with multi-year experience transport or land use planning (highly desirable).
- Experience leading and managing teams is highly regarded.
- Holds a current driver’s licence (mandatory).
