About the Transport Services Group

Transport Services is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning, and is responsible for delivering safe, reliable and accessible transport infrastructure and services to all Victorians.

Barwon South West Grampians is a Division within Transport Services, and is responsible for the statewide portfolio of road maintenance, delivered by the team in Maintenance Operations.

 

About the Role

The Roadside Delivery Lead plays a key role in shaping the success of the VRMC Gippsland contract, leading the delivery of vital roadside maintenance services across the region. With a strong focus on operational excellence, strategic direction, and meaningful stakeholder engagement, this role drives innovation, resolves emerging challenges, and ensures value-for-money outcomes. Position Outcomes / Accountabilities

  • Lead the end-to-end planning, development, and execution of roadside maintenance programs, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This includes the development, review, and approval of works programs and packages.
  • Build and maintain strong, productive relationships with contractor representatives, fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and high performance. Oversee contractor activities and ensure adherence to contractual obligations and safety standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including local councils, government agencies, and community representatives. Navigate competing priorities and communicate effectively to ensure alignment of goals, expectations, and delivery outcomes.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing initiatives that enhance service delivery, operational efficiency, and safety performance. Apply risk management and asset management principles to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Provide strategic insights and reporting to management and relevant authorities, offering recommendations that support contract performance, risk mitigation, and program optimisation.
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with relevant legislation, environmental regulations, and safety standards, and that community and environmental impacts are considered and effectively managed.
  • In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities

The candidate will also demonstrate effective project delivery and sound commercial acumen, ensuring operations are cost-efficient and vendor relationships are well-managed and accountable.

Qualifications and Experience
