SprayLine Road Services (SRS) is a commercialised branch within the Network Operations Division of the Department of Transport and Planning providing road maintenance services, construction and associated civil works, bituminous spray sealing and line marking to DTP, other state road authorities, municipal councils, and private industry. SRS delivers services locally within the communities and is committed to ensuring quality, innovative and sustainable outcomes. SRS performs a key role as an internal provider to DTP, providing emergency response, maintaining organisational capability and supporting DTP in being an informed purchaser.

 

About the Role

As a Road Worker - Surfacing at Junortoun Depot, Bendigo, you will become an integral member of our line marking and bituminous spray sealing crews undertaking a variety of road maintenance activities using a range of specialised plant and equipment and processes under general supervision and perform manual labour-intensive tasks in accordance with established safety, environmental and quality procedures.

Overtime and working away from home when needed are critical requirements of this role to deliver contracted works

Position Accountabilities

In this role you will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following duties:

  • Perform a variety of bituminous spray sealing, line marking and maintenance activities under general supervision
  • Under general supervision, operate and (where suitably trained or deemed competent) maintain major plant and equipment and perform manual intensive labour tasks.
  • Exercise judgement to implement changes to existing work practices, policies and procedures that will result in business improvements.
  • Be  an effective and cooperating team member and providing guidance to less experienced team members enabling them to gain required skills
  • Exercise judgement to implement Worksite Traffic Management Plans and maintain accurate field generated records.
  • Exercise judgement in effectively prioritising own work activities to achieve required outcomes.
  • Effectively present information in a clear and logical manner using terminology appropriate for audience

Key Selection Criteria

You will demonstrate sound problem-solving skills by following relevant policies and procedures, escalating issues appropriately, and contributing practical ideas to resolve operational challenges. A commitment to continuous improvement is essential, with the ability to maintain quality outcomes even when working under time pressure.

This role requires a strong understanding of operational policies, safety procedures, and guidelines, with a willingness to build knowledge and support business activities when required. You will work collaboratively with colleagues and external teams, adapt positively to changing priorities, and demonstrate self-awareness and professionalism in all interactions. Above all, you will place personal and team safety first—because nothing ruins a good day’s work faster than cutting corners.

 

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  1. Current Victorian Drivers Licence
  2. Current Medium Rigid Truck Licence (Medium Rigid or higher)
  3. Current Construction Induction White Card
  4. Current Traffic Management Ticket
  5. Current First Aid Certificate
  6. Working knowledge of computer tablets / mobile devices

 

Desirable

  1. Certificate III in Civil Construction
  2. Understanding of Asset Maintenance Management Systems
  3. Chainsaw & Polesaw training
  4. Skid Steer training

 

Other Information

Reimbursement for living away and overtime are at or above award rates with SRS providing Bed and Breakfast (where available) in suitable accommodation when working more than 1 hour from the base depot.

 

Whilst this role is primarily based at Junortoun Depot, Bendigo, you may be occasionally required to work from other locations across the state of Victoria based on the operational needs
