Summary

Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) is an integrated transport infrastructure and precincts planning project that will deliver a 90km rail line linking every major train service from the Frankston Line to the Werribee Line via Melbourne Airport, as well as investment in the suburbs, better connecting Victorians to jobs, retail, education, health services and each other. Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA) is the statutory body established to plan all elements of the project, procure builders, develop structure planning for SRL Precincts and oversee construction and the other changes that will help transform Melbourne and Victoria.

About the opportunity 

The Environmental Advisor position sits within the Land, Planning, Environment and Sustainability (LPES) team and reports to the Principal Adviser, Environmental Management. 

You will support the development and delivery of SRL East, working closely with the Senior Manager, Environmental Management to ensure SRLA meets its General Environmental Duty helping to ensure contractor partners proactively manage their environmental obligations whilst being actively involved in site-based activities. This will include establishing and implementing systems and processes to monitor overall project compliance.

In this role you will maintain both a flexible and accountable approach. Providing advice of complex issues while identifying opportunities for positive environmental and planning outcomes. Your approach will be highly proactive, solutions‑focused with the ability to build on strong working relationships with diverse SRLA project teams, delivery contractors, external stakeholders, and technical specialists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of complex environmental and planning approvals, in collaboration with project teams, technical and other advisors, that successfully achieve scope and program requirements.
  • Identify environmental risks and opportunities in the review of technical environmental assessment reports, design and construction deliverables.
  • Assist with monitoring compliance with project environmental requirements and implementation of the SRLA Environmental Management System.
  • Provide timely feedback to the Senior Manager, Environmental Management and the Director, Environment Delivery on any identified opportunities, issues, gaps, risk or business needs.
  • Together with the wider LPES team, provide guidance and advice to the broader Rail and Infrastructure delivery division and SRL delivery partners on environmental management matters.
  • Build and maintain sound relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external) to become a trusted advisor on environment issues within SRLA.

 

Qualifications:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and experience in environmental planning, engineering, science or management, or a similar discipline is mandatory.
