About the role 

The Analyst, Customer & Patronage Insights supports data-driven decision making across Victoria’s public transport network. The role analyses large-scale ticketing, patronage and customer related data to understand travel behaviour, identify trends and anomalies, and explain changes in network use.

 

Using Databricks and Power BI, the role develops reporting, dashboards and data assets that provide clear and accessible insights to stakeholders. The Analyst also contributes to analytical methods, data quality and validation, and responds to ad hoc requests. An inquisitive approach and ability to explore data, uncover meaningful insights and clearly communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences are key to the role.
 

What we’re looking for (Selection Criteria) 

You’re someone who: 

  • Analyses complex data and solves problems, investigating issues from multiple perspectives and using sound judgement to identify meaningful patterns, trends and insights.
  • Has strong data and technical skills, with proficiency in SQL, Databricks and Power BI, and an understanding of data quality, structures and integrity.
  • Communicates insights clearly and effectively, translating complex analysis into accessible information that supports informed decision-making.
  • Builds strong stakeholder relationships and works collaboratively, responding to diverse needs, sharing knowledge and contributing to a supportive team environment.
  • Is curious, adaptable and focused on continuous improvement, exploring new approaches, improving analytical processes and responding effectively to changing priorities.

Qualifications and experience 

You’ll bring: 

  • Experience writing SQL to explore, analyse and transform large datasets (mandatory).
  • Experience working with Databricks, and developing reports and data visualisations in Power BI.
  • Experience using AI tools to support insight development and identify new ways to analyse and understand data.
