Location: Melbourne | Salary: $300,000 p.a. | Tenure: Part-time, fixed term (1 year)
The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking a strategic, outcomes-driven leader to serve as Building Monitor, a key statutory role responsible for championing the interests of domestic building consumers across Victoria.
As head of the Office of the Building Monitor, you will lead a high-impact agenda focused on improving consumer experiences, identifying system-wide issues, and enhancing consumer awareness of rights and remedies within the Victorian building system.
Key responsibilities:
- Providing expert and authoritative advice to the Minister for Planning and senior executives.
- Leading a portfolio of strategic work to improve building system outcomes for domestic building consumers.
- Building strong partnerships across government, industry, and community sectors.
- Driving change and influencing policy and regulatory reform.
- Advocating on behalf of consumers to deliver system improvements.

About you:
You are a respected leader with deep knowledge of the Victorian building system and a track record in delivering complex reform. You bring exceptional stakeholder management, policy, and regulatory expertise — and a genuine commitment to improving consumer outcomes.
Essential qualifications and experience:
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field.
- Executive-level experience in building and construction, governance, and/or regulation.
- Proven leadership in managing complex programs, policy development and reform.
- Strong understanding of public sector operations and service delivery.
- Proven track record in complex stakeholder management
