About the Role
This is a 12-Month Fixed Term role.
The Business Intelligence Analyst is responsible for the development, support and maintenance of business intelligence tools, such as Power BI interactive reports, and providing meaningful analytical insights from these products. The position complements the role of the Senior Business Intelligence Analyst and will need to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders within the Project Management Office (PMO) branch as well as across the Department to utilise a variety of data/information sources including the Project Portfolio Management system to support project delivery uplift and information sharing.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities
- Power BI Report Development – using expertise in business intelligence software (Power BI) to develop new and innovative reports that provide accurate and timely data to the Portfolio Management Office, DTP Executive Leadership and other stakeholders based on data from project management systems and other data sources.
- Subject Matter Expertise – using demonstrated proficiency and ability to understand the use of business intelligence to support and coach other members of the Portfolio Management Office in the use of Power BI reports to support decision-making and information exchange.
- Innovative & High-Quality Reporting – develops and presents high quality reports, technical and professional documents for stakeholders and project delivery teams with insights, trend analysis about project and portfolio performance to ensure that reported project information is accurate, timely and meets quality criteria.
- Stakeholder Management - Liaises effectively with project delivery teams, central agencies, transport agencies and other stakeholders to gather, review and prepare accurate reports.
- Change Management - Utilises knowledge of project portfolio management systems, supports the development and implementation of interactive reports to streamline the analysis of project information; provides advice to project teams to continually improve reported project information quality.
Key Selection Criteria
The DTP is seeking a professional with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, capable of interpreting guidelines, analysing information, and making informed decisions. The role requires applied data literacy, including advanced Excel skills, data analysis, and visualisation to support decision-making, alongside a focus on innovation and continuous improvement. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential to understand stakeholder needs, tailor messaging effectively, and deliver quality outcomes under pressure.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated experience working with business intelligence software (Power BI & DAX), Microsoft Excel and experience using those skills to support business reporting outcomes (mandatory).
- Microsoft Power BI Report Builder (Paginated Reports) experience (desirable).
