About the role
This is an ONGOING fulltime role. The Business Support Officer (BSO) provides day-to-day administrative support to Department of Transport and Planning’s ministerial offices on behalf of the Ministerial and Government Services Branch. The position provides customer service and builds and maintains effective working relationships across the Minister’s Office and the Department, as well as liaising with other ministerial offices, agencies and stakeholders as required.
Position accountabilities
- Attends and responds to a broad range of written correspondence and telephone calls relating to Ministerial queries, processes and protocols.
- Assists Departmental Liaison Officers in coordinating workflow of ministerial briefings, correspondence including reporting, printing and prioritising of urgent matters for the office.
- Provides professional and courteous customer service to Ministerial staff, departmental staff and members of the public.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with key department and agency staff.

Success also depends on collaborative capability, including working well with others, sharing information, recognising contributions, and providing support to achieve shared goals.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound critical thinking and problem-solving skills, effectively applying policies and processes while contributing ideas and seeking guidance when needed. You will deliver work reliably by prioritising tasks, using approved tools, and maintaining accurate records. Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, emotional awareness and clear communication are essential, along with resilience shown through adaptability, persistence, discipline, and openness to new ideas and approaches.
