The Cabinet Services Advisor is responsible for managing the department’s Cabinet Committee business. It is also responsible for providing specialist advice to the Ministers’ offices, the Secretary, Executives and senior staff on Cabinet processes and protocols.

Position Outcomes
- Provide support for the department’s Cabinet, Cabinet Committees and legislative processes, including coordinating and preparing documents and maintaining sound records management of confidential and sensitive material.
- Liaise with and provide high quality advice to senior departmental staff, Ministers’ offices, other Victorian Government Departments and particularly the central agencies of the Department of Premier and Cabinet and the Department of Treasury and Finance on all DTP related Cabinet and Cabinet Committee matters.
- Ensure the department’s Cabinet in Confidence (CIC) material is of a high quality and meets internal and DPC compliance requirements in regard to timeframes and format.
- Build and maintain effective relationships for gathering and disseminating information within DTP, Cabinet Secretariat, the Ministers’ Offices and other government departments.
- Assist with the training and development of Cabinet Services staff in the full range of tasks undertaken by the unit and deliver training session to DTP staff on process matters.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
The Cabinet Services Advisor will demonstrate a deep understanding of Government processes, systems, and Cabinet or similar support services, applying their expertise to ensure efficient and effective outcomes. They will bring excellent organisational skills and work collaboratively within a team to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines. With strong verbal and written communication abilities, including keen attention to detail, the Advisor will build and maintain productive relationships across the department, Ministers’ offices, and other government agencies. Operating with discretion and sound judgement, the Advisor will manage sensitive and confidential issues under pressure while contributing innovative ideas and showing flexibility in delivering practical, solutions-focused outcomes.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Desirable
- Good understanding of polices and issues in the DTP portfolio, as well as the Government’s overall policy objectives.
- Ability to provide high level advice on procedures and requirements in relation to Cabinet and Ministerial matters.
- Thorough knowledge and experience of Cabinet, legislative and Ministerial processes..
