About the role
Key Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical and decision-making skills to conduct fair and consistent internal reviews of infringement notices within the Victorian infringements system. The position demands the ability to interpret and apply complex legislation, policies, and guidelines while considering individual circumstances, including mental health, addiction, homelessness, and family violence.

 

Candidates must demonstrate sound judgement, attention to detail, and the capacity to assess evidence objectively to ensure decisions are evidence-based and legally compliant. Success in the role also requires high levels of integrity, empathy, and the ability to balance regulatory responsibilities with fairness and compassion.

Position accountabilities
The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) is seeking a dedicated Case Review Officer to join the Transport Regulatory Operations branch. This role plays a vital part in supporting Victoria’s infringements system by ensuring fair, consistent, and evidence-based decisions on infringement reviews related to public transport and parking offences.


As a Case Review Officer, you will conduct internal reviews into the decision to issue infringement notices, applying statutory and administrative procedures with accuracy and integrity. You will be responsible for gathering information, assessing evidence, considering individual circumstances, and making well-reasoned decisions in line with governing legislation, policies and guidelines.


Working collaboratively across the branch and with key stakeholders, you will ensure review processes are compliant, transparent and delivered to a high standard. You will also prepare clear and accurate correspondence, manage internal delegate approvals, and provide sound advice to support decision-making.


Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex legislation while balancing regulatory obligations with fairness and empathy. You will be committed to upholding the VPS Code of Conduct, values and behaviours, and contribute to continuous improvement in processes and outcomes.

Qualifications and experience
DESIRABLE 
•    Recent experience in a similar subject matter.
•    A relevant tertiary degree would be highly regarded.
