Communications and Customer Experience leads best-practice communications and engagement to connect DTP with our people, customers, industry partners and communities. About the role
*This is a Fixed Term Position for 12 months*
This role will support the Communication and Engagement Manager (Building) to deliver communications and engagement activities across the building policy and reform division.
Key Selection Criteria
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to produce clear, high-quality materials and build effective relationships across diverse stakeholders. They will be proactive and resourceful, using critical thinking and sound judgement to identify issues, manage risks, and develop practical solutions. A flexible and adaptable approach is essential, with the capacity to navigate change and ambiguity while maintaining focus on delivering effective outcomes.

Position accountabilities
The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking a skilled Communications and Engagement Advisor to deliver high-quality communications that support key government initiatives in the building sector.
In this role, you’ll contribute to the creation of clear and engaging materials, including communication plans, key messages, consultation guides, presentation packs, speaking notes and social media content. You’ll collaborate closely with the Communications and Engagement Manager, stakeholders and subject matter experts to develop and implement targeted communication strategies that enhance program delivery and public engagement.
You’ll provide considered advice on communication matters, identify emerging risks and opportunities, and develop innovative solutions to complex or sensitive issues. The role also involves maintaining accurate and compliant records, including stakeholder lists, and scheduling stakeholder meetings.
We’re looking for a proactive and adaptable communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working collaboratively across multiple projects and priorities. Qualifications and experience
Desirable
Tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in fields related to communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or similar.
