About the role
The Data Engineer position sits within the Data and Digital division and will lead the development and operationalisation of enterprise data assets to enable strategic data and analytics initiatives. This includes applying industry-standard practices and tools to design and implement robust data pipelines that transform and integrate complex datasets from disparate systems into analysis-ready formats. The role will also drive improvements in customer information flows, ensuring data solutions meet the evolving needs of multiple business areas and contribute to whole-of-organisation data maturity.

Position accountabilities
DTP is seeking a Data Engineer to support the delivery of fast, reliable and reusable data capabilities that enable better analytics, decision-making and customer outcomes. The role focuses on applying best-practice data engineering techniques to improve data access, accelerate time-to-solution and integrate analytics into business processes.
Working closely with data and analytics specialists, you will help optimise data models, pipelines and algorithms for quality, security and governance, and support their deployment into production for analysts, data scientists and self-service users. Strong stakeholder engagement skills are essential, as the role partners with technology and business teams to address bottlenecks, improve access to internal and external data, and balance openness with the need to safeguard sensitive information.
Continuous improvement is a key expectation, with responsibility for uplifting capability, enhancing procedures and contributing to innovation that supports business needs and strategic objectives. The successful candidate will exercise sound judgement to ensure compliance with data, security and governance standards while operationalising integrated and reusable data pipelines across the organisation.

Qualifications and experience
Mandatory
− A tertiary qualification in information systems, computer science and/or equivalent.
− Experience in working on data warehouse platforms (e.g. SQLServer, Oracle, Databricks, Teradata).
− Experience in developing in SQL.
− Experience in working with CI/CD practices and software (e.g. GIT, Bamboo, Azure DevOps).
