About the role
The Deputy Director, Strategic Communications is responsible for overseeing communications and engagement outcomes across the VIDA Rail’s program of works. The role will work closely with the Executive Director, Strategic Communications and provide guidance to Stakeholder Relations and Communications Deputy Directors across all work packages.
On a day-to-day basis, you will
- Provide active leadership, direction and management of communications and engagement across all VIDA Rail’s program of works.
- Identify the need for, develop and implement strategies relating to whole-of-program issues or initiatives, driving a best-practice and consistent approach across all work packages.
- Provide expert advice on stakeholder relations and communications, community relations and other matters to Project Directors and a range of internal/external stakeholders, including Minister’s offices, identifying risks and advising on communications strategies.
The role reports to Jane Wharton (Executive Director, Strategic Communications) Jane’s leadership style is best described as supportive, motivating and encouraging. She allows her team to work autonomously whilst providing support where needed and encourages team members to develop and thrive in their professional careers.

The role is a 3-year fixed term position, paying a salary of $188,297 – $256,088 plus superannuation.
About you
You don’t shy away from a challenge, have impeccable time management skills and you’re agile and adaptable to an ever-changing landscape of works. You’ll need to be resilient and flexible in your approach whilst providing advice to the Executive Director of Strategic Communications.
Let's get technical! What will we expect from you?
- Extensive experience in the leadership and management of high-profile communication/stakeholder relations, within complex, major infrastructure project delivery environments.
- A strong understanding of the challenges, issues and risks associated with delivering major transport infrastructure projects, with exceptional skills in developing and implementing communications strategies and frameworks in this environment.
- A relevant qualification in communications, public relations, media or public policy discipline, or suitable relevant experience is mandatory.
