VIDA Health (Victorian Health Building Authority) is responsible for the rollout of the Victorian Government's multi-billion-dollar health capital projects. We're delivering world-class health facilities across Victoria including new public hospitals and emergency care, community health services, ambulance branches, residential aged care and mental health facilities. VIDA Health also provides technical support across engineering, property, asset management and environmental sustainability disciplines.

The Opportunity

As the Director, Project Design, you will lead the design function for the Parkville Precinct Redevelopment (PPR) at a critical stage of delivery. Reporting to the Project Director, you will provide strategic leadership across all design elements, ensuring integration across planning, procurement, and delivery phases.

You will lead and develop a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team, working closely with contractors, consultants, health services and government stakeholders. This role plays a key part in shaping project outcomes, providing authoritative advice to senior executives, and ensuring design excellence across one of Victoria’s most significant health infrastructure programs.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Lead and manage multi-disciplinary design teams, consultants, and contractors to deliver integrated design outcomes.
  • Provide strategic advice to senior executives and governance forums on complex design and project matters.
  • Oversee design development across all project phases, ensuring alignment with scope, budget, and government frameworks.
  • Drive stakeholder engagement and negotiations across government, health services, and industry partners.
  • Manage project risks, issues, and compliance, ensuring strong governance, probity, and reporting standards.
  • Lead a high-performance culture, building capability and fostering collaboration across teams.

We are looking for:

  • Extensive experience leading design on major health or infrastructure projects, ideally within complex government environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with credibility across public and private sector partners, including PPP environments.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic, technical advice and influence executive decision-making.
  • Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong commercial, financial, and risk management capability.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Design, Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
