About the role 

This is a Fixed Term Position (Executive contract up to 3 years)

The Director Planning Facilitation leads DTP’s Planning Facilitation branch, serving as the primary entry point for major development and infrastructure proposals. The role supports the Minister for Planning by guiding projects through Victoria’s planning and environmental assessment processes, coordinating stakeholders, reducing project risks, and enabling timely, informed decisions on priority investments.

 

The position provides strategic leadership for complex projects, oversees approval and assessment pathways, and delivers high-quality advice to executives and Ministers. It also builds strong partnerships across government, industry and regulatory agencies, while leading a high-performing team responsible for project facilitation, pre-application advice, coordination and quality assurance.

Qualifications and experience 

You’ll bring: 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and substantial experience in urban planning, statutory planning or a related discipline, with deep expertise in the assessment and facilitation of complex major development, infrastructure and environmental approval proposals.
  • Demonstrated experience navigating and advising on statutory planning approvals, planning scheme amendments, environmental effects processes and other relevant approval pathways for strategically significant proposals, along with leading the assessment and facilitation of complex major development and infrastructure projects across metropolitan and regional contexts.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation and leadership capability, with strong strategic judgement and problem-solving skills, including the ability to influence outcomes, resolve complex issues, deliver practical and defensible solutions in contested environments, and lead high-performing teams in complex policy, planning or project settings.
