About the role 

This is a Fixed Term Position (Executive contract up to 5 years)

The Director, Portfolio Financial Management leads a team responsible for whole-of-portfolio financial management, budgeting, reporting, and oversight across the Transport Portfolio. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the role is the primary liaison with the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) and requires extensive experience in executive-level stakeholder management, financial strategy, budgeting, reporting, and team leadership.

The role provides strategic financial advice, supports departmental planning and State Budget processes, and ensures strong partnerships with DTF and key stakeholders. It also drives organisational change, leads high-performing and inclusive teams, manages resources effectively, and ensures compliance with governance frameworks and budget requirements.

Qualifications and experience 

You’ll bring: 

  • A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive senior leadership experience in financial management, ideally within the Victorian Government or broader public sector.
  • Strong knowledge of the Victorian Government Budget and Financial Management Framework, with the ability to apply it in complex organisational environments.
