About the Role 

This is a five year fixed term SES 2 role

As the Executive Director, Integrated Strategy, you will lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team shaping the future of Victoria’s transport, planning, and land use systems. With the state’s population forecast to reach over 10 million by 2051, this role plays a critical part in responding to the needs of a rapidly growing and evolving Victoria.

Reporting directly to the Department Secretary, the Executive Director will draw on data, customer and operational insights to deliver strategic, future-focused policies that improve how Victorians live, work and move.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Driving whole-of-department strategies and policy development to support integrated and sustainable transport and land use outcomes.
  • Establishing multi-functional groups from experts across the department to support co-design strategy development.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve the inclusivity of the transport system to improve Victorians’ ability to participate in society, including education, employment, social and recreational activities.
  • Developing policies with measures to improve the environmental performance and sustainability of the transport system.
  • Developing non-infrastructure policy measures, including through use of emerging technology, to improve transport outcomes for Victorians.
  • Leading collaboration with other jurisdictions and the academic sector to identify and respond to emerging challenges and global trends.
  • Providing strategic advice to senior executives, Ministers and advisors on complex policy issues.

Position Outcomes

This role is pivotal in driving strategic planning and policy reform that aligns with government priorities and community needs. The Executive Director will lead the integration of sustainable practices across transport infrastructure and services, proactively addressing environmental impacts and future-proofing outcomes. Success in the role will be demonstrated by strong collaboration with senior leaders and active engagement with industry, academia, and research bodies to anticipate and respond to emerging transport and planning challenges. The Executive Director will contribute to the delivery of departmental priorities by embedding a forward-thinking, evidence-based approach to planning and execution.
