The Department of Transport and Planning oversees key planning, transport and land use policy decisions and management across the State. An exciting opportunity is available within Geographic Names Victoria, part of the Surveyor-General Victoria branch at Land Use Victoria.

The Gender Equality Officer will lead the adoption of female commemorative names across Victoria, supporting naming authorities to meet their obligations for roads, features, and localities named in recognition of women’s contributions.

Working within Geographic Names Victoria, the role will drive initiatives under the Our Equal Places program. This includes policy development, management of funding agreements, event coordination, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy for inclusive place naming.

Key initiatives include Remember a Local – Name a Place, Victoria’s gender equality targets, and partnerships with Gender Equity Victoria, Put Her Name On It, and Her Place Women’s Museum Australia.

Geographic Names Victoria is a small, dedicated team committed to protecting communities and preserving cultural heritage through place naming.
