About the Role

The Imagery Stream Lead, Data Acquisition and Contracts (Vicmap) plays a key leadership role within the Vicmap Spatial Services team in the Data and Digital Division. The position oversees the acquisition and management of imagery and 3D spatial data to support Victorian state and local government needs.
The role involves leading a small team, managing contracts, delivering service improvements, and coordinating project data across imagery and 3D programs. It contributes to the development, maintenance, and quality assurance of Vicmap’s imagery and 3D products, ensuring reliable, high-quality spatial data for public sector partners.
Additionally, the Imagery Stream Lead provides technical expertise, advice to stakeholders, and input into cost-recovered projects and the Geospatial and Data Analytics Panel, supporting efficient investment and use of spatial data across Victoria.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities
- Coordinate and oversee contractors for imagery and 3D data acquisition projects, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
- Develop and deliver clear project specifications to support procurement and maintain high supplier standards.
- Provide expert advice to stakeholders on the creation, use, and management of imagery and 3D products.
- Manage project finances, including reporting, invoicing, and expenditure tracking.
- Lead and collaborate with the team to achieve shared goals, fostering a cooperative and high-performing environment.
Key Selection Criteria
The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking an experienced Imagery Stream Lead to oversee the acquisition and management of Victoria’s imagery and 3D spatial data within Vicmap. The role leads a small team, manages complex projects and contracts, and ensures high-quality geospatial services that meet public sector needs. Success requires strong leadership, project delivery, and contract management skills, along with strategic thinking, innovation, and a future-focused approach to improving Vicmap’s data services.

Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory
- A relevant tertiary and/or industry qualifications (e.g. geoinformatics, spatial sciences, information technology, computer science, engineering)
- Relevant experience in the acquisition and contract management of spatial data products in government.
