Road Safety Victoria within the Department of Transport and Planning, leads the efforts of all road safety partners to deliver a collective response across government, our industry partners, and the Victorian community to create a safe road environment that supports all road users regardless of mode to make safe choices aimed to reduced road trauma as we work towards the vision of zero deaths on Victorian roads by 2050.
About the Role
*This is a Fixed Term Position until 30 June 2026*
The Road Safety intern position will be based in the School Crossing Risk Assessment Framework (SCRAF) project team within the Road Safety Policy, Education and Partnerships (PEP) branch of Road Safety Victoria. The interns will be provided opportunities to undertake project support activities to implement the SCRAF, a new methodology for assessing road safety risks at school crossings, and to pilot new infrastructure treatments. Interns will be provided with training on the SCRAF methodology and tools, including onsite training to observe how the SCRAF works and practise how to use it in a real live environment.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities
- Provide support setting sites up and assigning councils for data collection.
- Support in reviewing council and traffic survey data.
- Provide over the phone support relating to the use of the apps associated with onsite data collection.
- Undertake research such as a literature review into potential treatments for trial under the Framework.
- Assist in the development and implementation the methodology for trialling a range of road safety treatments.
- Analyse the trial data to produce a report of the outcomes.
Key Selection Criteria
To be successful in the role the ideal candidate will be a strong communicator who can present information clearly, logically and appropriately for different audiences. They will enjoy problem solving, use critical thinking to investigate issues and apply a structured approach to finding solutions. The successful candidate will also be confident working with data, presenting insights in a clear and concise way, while identifying trends or anomalies to support informed decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
Mandatory
- Must be currently enrolled in a course at a university (undergraduate, Masters or PhD) with at least 6 months remaining to end of enrolment.
- Must have completed, or are studying a university course relating to civil or transport engineering and be studying or completed a university course relating to user experience design.
Desirable
- Research, analysis and written communication skills.
- Good verbal communication skills.
