About the Role
This is a Fixed Term Position until 30 June 2026
The Lead Officer - Engineering Standards sits within the Standards and Transport Engineering Branch (STE) of A&E and reports to the Senior Manager – Engineering Standards. They will provide technical administrative support and coordination relating to public transport technical standards on behalf of the Engineering Standards team within STE.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities
- Develop collaborative relationships within Department Transport and Planning Transport (DTP), Rail Track Operators (RTOs) and Delivery Agencies to support the reliable, integrated and efficient delivery of network change as applicable to technical standards.
- Support the assurance of Network Technical Standards (NTS) for the DTP with technical Subject Matter Experts (SME).
- Coordinate the review of DTP waivers against standards and maintain governance group decision registers.
- Maintain the DTP Tracker and Register.
- Prepare agendas and take minutes for standards governance meetings and related.
- Develop templates and forms to support the DTP Standards Management System.
- Coordinate governance and compliance outcomes for waivers to ensure alignment with the DTP standards is demonstrated.
- Develop and maintain metrics in relation to waivers and DTP standards compliance.
- Provide input to technical review panels on metrics and trends with respect to DTP standards.
- In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities
Key Selection Criteria
The DTP is seeking a results-driven professional with strong communication skills, capable of making a positive impression, addressing sensitive topics, and engaging effectively with stakeholders to build partnerships and achieve outcomes. Proficiency in data analysis, advanced Excel functions, and visualisation is essential, alongside critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate complex challenges and make informed decisions. With a focus on project delivery, you will define tasks, guide team execution, and ensure progress aligns with agreed objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
Desirable
- A relevant qualification in project management or other technical field
- General industry experience working within road and/or rail transport industry infrastructure
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Office 365
- The successful applicant will be required to work a minimum of three days per week in the office, in-line with the VPS flexible work policy
