About the role
 

The role will manage a team of surveying (and related) professionals and provide technical leadership and guidance to the team, in the field of transport infrastructure survey. The role will manage priorities within the team to deliver a program of survey works to the Department, and other infrastructure agencies. This includes the review and processing of surveys undertaken by internal staff (and others) as well as approving plans and various documents as required, as a Proper Officer under the Survey Co-ordination Act.

The incumbent manages the work priorities of the team to meet project delivery requirements. This role is responsible for knowledge sharing with the team so appropriate advice is provided in a timely manner that meets the needs of clients and respects requirements of stakeholders. A high standard of technical advice is to be provided specifically regarding transport Survey Plans, land acquisition and road declaration, along with maintenance of DTP standards and guidelines and adherence to safe work practices. The incumbent works closely with the leadership team to support the needs of the whole of the Surveying Services team.

Technical capabilities

Cadastral Surveying and Road Declaration (Accomplished) - Highly skilled in cadastral surveying and road declaration, they are responsible for accurately defining property and road boundaries. They effectively manage cadastral surveying tasks and navigate legal complexities, providing reliable and precise results Advanced understanding of complex cadastral surveying projects and road declaration requirements. In-depth knowledge of legal statutes, regulations, and law governing land surveying, land acquisition and road declarations (i.e. Road Management Act and Major Transport Project Facilitation Act).


Qualifications and experience

–    Demonstratable management and people leading experience. (mandatory)
–    University degree in surveying or geomatics or an equivalent qualification as approved by the Surveyors Registration Board of Victoria. (mandatory)
–    Registration as a Practising Licensed Surveyor in Victoria with the Surveyors Registration Board of Victoria with experience after registration. (mandatory)
–    10+ years’ experience in the surveying profession. (mandatory)
–    Experience in the government transport infrastructure sector. (desirable)
–    Working knowledge of transport survey plans and the associated legislation, including the Land Acquisition and Compensation Act, Road Management Act and Major Transport Project Facilitation Act. (desirable)


Other position-specific requirements

–    Driver’s License 
–    Ability to travel, work and stay overnight across locations within metropolitan and regional Victoria outside normal working hours as reasonably required.   
–    The occupational health and safety requirements of this position may include, but are not limited to:
–    Sedentary desk work
–    Fieldwork (as required)
–    Manual handling
