About the Role

The Manager, Asset Data Reporting and Visualisation is a position that sits within the Asset Information Requirements, Governance and Reporting Team in Asset Intelligence Branch of Assets and Engineering Division. The position leads the on-going management of asset related data reporting and visualisation capabilities that align with business needs, organisational objectives and regulatory requirements.  

This position ensures that timely and accurate asset reports and dashboards are available to meet DTP reporting and visualisation decision-making including strategic asset management, asset assurance, monitoring of asset health, lifecycle performance, risks and other asset management activities across the asset lifecycle.

The position plays a critical role in bridging technical data outputs with business needs by collaborating closely with stakeholders across asset management to ensure reporting outputs are aligned with organisational goals and priorities.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities 

  • Asset Data Reporting and Visualisation – The incumbent leads the development, implementation and continuous improvement of asset data reporting and visualisation capabilities that align with organisational objectives and business needs.
  • Asset Reports and Dashboards Development – The incumbent provides advanced expertise and knowledge in the production, management and improvement of dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI, Tableau or similar platform to provide clear, targeted and timely reports that contributes to regulatory submissions, audits, and reporting obligations related to asset inventory, condition and performance.
  • Asset Data Mining and Integration – The incumbent develops methods to obtain/access data from asset custodians and stewards, asset information specialists, and collaborate with data engineers and modellers to ensure data from multiple sources (e.g. Enterprise Asset Management System, GIS, Analytics Platform, SCADA) are harmonised and integrated for reporting.
  • Asset Trend Analysis – The incumbent applies sound statistical and analytical techniques to build and maintain methodologies to enable trend analysis in asset condition, performance, failure rates to support evidence-based problem solving with respect to asset management lifecycle activities.
  • Stakeholder Management – The incumbent demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders to understand business needs and requirements to ensure delivery of value-added reporting solutions.
  • In line with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) other duties may be assigned consistent with employment classification, skills, and capabilities.

 

Key Selection Criteria

The DTP is seeking a professional with strong data literacy and reporting expertise to analyse complex datasets, generate meaningful insights, and support effective decision-making. You will apply accomplished critical thinking, stakeholder management, and organisational asset management capabilities to deliver value-add outcomes and drive service improvements. The role also encourages innovation and continuous improvement, contributing ideas and enhancing processes to improve quality and efficiency.

 

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  • Tertiary qualifications in data analytics, data science, statistics, asset management and/or engineering related disciplines
  • Experience in data visualisation development through BI Tools such as Power BI, Tableau
  • Experience in people management and team leadership
  • Experience in complex infrastructure, asset and/or engineering data management

Desirable

  • Experience in one or more programming languages (R, SQL, Python)
  • Experience in Asset Management, preferably in Transport industry (Roads, Rail, Bus)
  • Experience in managing geospatial data (Shapefile, GeoJSON, WKT, KML, KMZ) and products (Esri)
