About the Network Design and Integration Group

Network, Design and Integration is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning and is responsible for delivering transport priorities through the planning, development and maintenance of and integrated pipelines of projects and strategic initiatives.

About the Role

This is a Fixed Term, full-time position until 16 December 2025.

 

This position is part of a team which is responsible for providing leadership and direction with regard to the development and operation of the commercial port network in Victoria, and major strategic projects which support the efficient and sustainable operations of Victoria’s supply chain.  The role provides authoritative advice and guidance in the development of key policies; the review of documents generated through various port legislation, oversight of the planning, development and implementation of major commercial projects related to commercial ports which support the Victorian supply chain.

The Manager Commercial Ports plays an important role in planning for future growth of the commercial port system as part of the freight network. Current knowledge and experience associated with the planning and/or operation of commercial ports is required in this position.

The position will work closely with colleagues across the Department, port and freight managers and operators, stakeholders within the planning, freight and ports communities, relevant Victorian and Commonwealth Government departments and agencies to implement port and freight policy and planning initiatives.

Position Outcomes

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering diverse policy and project initiatives, ensuring key commercial project milestones are achieved, effectively overseeing broad port-related matters, and performing additional duties aligned with Section 31A of the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) and the role's classification, skills, and capabilities.

  1. Freight and transport experience - Demonstrated specialist knowledge and/or significant industry experience in relation to freight transport policy, planning or operations, particularly in commercial ports.

Written and Verbal Communication - Prepares complex briefs, letters, emails and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct language; Edits written communications to ensure they contain the information necessary to achieve their purpose and meet audience needs; Ensures appropriate style and formats are used. Handles difficult and sensitive communications well.
