About the Role

 

*This is a Fixed Term Position until 30th June 2026*

The Manager PT Operational Assurance is responsible for leading the delivery of safe, efficient, and reliable public transport services across metropolitan and regional networks. This role oversees key service delivery objectives, manages high-level stakeholder relationships, and coordinates responses to operational challenges such as weather impacts and major events. It requires strong technical knowledge of public transport operations, the ability to communicate complex information effectively, and a strategic approach to problem-solving and service improvement. The position also involves managing working groups, evaluating operator performance, and providing detailed advice and briefings to senior management to support ongoing service excellence.

Position Outcomes / Accountabilities

 

  • Conduct technical operational reviews and support assurance activities to ensure ongoing efficiency and operability of public transport infrastructure and assets.
  • Investigate and resolve urgent operational issues affecting service delivery and compliance, and lead post-incident reviews with clear documentation and executive briefings.
  • Analyse factors impacting service performance and develop innovative initiatives to improve customer experience and operational outcomes.
  • Oversee service delivery during disruptions, including rally and heat-related timetable changes, ensuring clear stakeholder coordination and effective customer communication.
  • Prepare complex technical reports, review operator timetables for compliance, and maintain strong relationships with government, transport agencies, and advocacy groups.

 

Key Selection Criteria

 

The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking a skilled leader for the role of Manager PT Operational Assurance. This position is responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of public transport services across Victoria by managing operational performance, coordinating responses to disruptions, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, project delivery, and communication skills, with the ability to lead teams and influence outcomes across the transport sector.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

 

  • Significant experience in public transport operations
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management experience.
  • Significant roster and timetabling experience.
  • Participation in Escalation Manager roster.

 

Desirable

  • Driver’s License
  • Working from alternate locations
  • After hours, weekend work may also be required
