About the role 
The Network Policy officer provides expert policy advice and develops practical solutions to complex transport network challenges, considering the relationship between transport operations, land use planning and competing interests. It helps the Department respond to emerging and future challenges and improve outcomes for the Victorian community.

Key responsibilities include developing transport policy options and recommendations, contributing to strategic policy development, and working with technical experts and stakeholders. The role also involves negotiation and consultation, preparing reports, project scopes and briefs, and developing communication strategies to support complex projects and informed decision-making.

You’re someone who: 

  • Designs and develops effective policy solutions, using sound judgement, available evidence and guidelines to address complex issues and inform decisions.
  • Thinks critically and solves problems, identifying relevant information, seeking input where needed and applying practical solutions in the right context.
  • Works collaboratively and builds partnerships, engaging stakeholders, experts and teams to understand needs, share insights and co-create effective solutions.
  • Communicates with impact, presenting information clearly and concisely and tailoring communication to different audiences.
  • Focuses on outcomes and community impact, connecting day-to-day work with broader organisational priorities and delivering outcomes within agreed timeframes.

Qualifications and experience 

You’ll bring: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as engineering, law, economics or public policy (desirable)
  • An understanding of policy development and three years’ experience in transport or planning (desirable). 

Pre-employment checks and employment conditions

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa necessary for the nature of the position.
