About the role

The Planner is responsible for undertaking statutory planning assessments and supporting the decision-making functions of the State Planning division, in relation to projects where the Minister for Planning is the responsible authority. The Planner provides associated statutory planning advice in support of work across the Planning and Land Services Group and the Department and works collaboratively with managers and urban designers to facilitate decision-making. The position requires a motivated individual with experience in statutory planning in the public or private sectors.

 

Success in this role requires a strong communicator who can deliver clear, engaging messages tailored to diverse audiences while building productive relationships with customers and stakeholders. The ideal candidate demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving skills, collaborates effectively to co-design solutions, and drives continuous improvement through innovation and customer insight. They remain flexible and adaptable in dynamic environments, influencing others with empathy and aligning ideas to shared goals.

Position accountabilities

–    Facilitate and deliver quality and timely advice on all aspects of planning applications and statutory planning matters, having regard to planning processes and land use, development, built form and amenity issues. 
–    Produce planning assessment reports and briefs and advice on planning applications to inform decision-making. 
–    Foster key stakeholder relationships and partnerships within the department and with other government agencies and key stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of advice and assessments. 
–    Negotiate with applicants and key stakeholders to deliver better planning outcomes through the statutory planning process. 
–    Work flexibly and collaboratively across the practice to deliver departmental priorities and initiatives as required. 

 

 

Qualifications and experience

–    A relevant qualification in planning (mandatory)
–    Experience in private consulting, local or state government statutory planning (mandatory)
