About the role  

This is a fixed-term full-time position through to 30 June 2027 within the Planning Facilitation unit which supports the Minister’s statutory planning responsibilities, including oversight of the Development Facilitation Program (DFP).

The Minister for Planning acts as the Responsible Authority for a number of precincts, including Central City Melbourne, Geelong and Fishermans Bend, as well as priority sectors such as renewable energy whilst the DFP provides an accelerated assessment pathway for priority projects within designated sectors. These projects are intended to drive investment in the Victorian economy, support employment, and deliver new housing.

Position accountabilities

  • Facilitate and deliver quality, technically competent and timely advice on all aspects of development applications, planning scheme amendments, priority projects and statutory planning matters having regard to planning processes and land use, development, built form and amenity issues.
  • Produce planning assessment reports and briefs and advice on development approvals, priority projects, planning processes and urban planning issues to inform decision making.
  • Provide advice to senior management on complex development and built form issues and solutions and prepare assessment reports, Cabinet submissions, Ministerial briefings, on time, and that demonstrate an understanding of the policy, political and legal context.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and experience in urban planning; in particular, the assessment of development approvals (mandatory)
  • Effectively negotiates with clients/stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Critically evaluates problems from multiple perspectives and delivers effective solutions.
  • License.
