About the role
There are 2 ongoing opportunities available.
The Policy Analyst role sits within DTP’s newly established Strategy Branch, which leads the Department’s long-term strategic planning. Reporting to the Director Strategy, the role works within a small team to support high-priority transport and planning policy initiatives through evidence-based analysis and advice.
The role focuses on data-driven research, policy analysis and problem-solving across transport and planning areas. It involves working closely with stakeholders across DTP, translating complex findings into clear insights, supporting strategic projects and helping deliver robust policy recommendations that inform future decision-making.

You’re someone who:
- Uses data and evidence to identify insights, support decision-making and inform transport and planning policy outcomes.
- Applies strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyse complex issues and develop practical, effective solutions.
- Communicates complex concepts and technical information clearly and confidently to a range of audiences.
- Drives innovation and continuous improvement by using research, stakeholder insights and data to enhance processes and outcomes.
- Works collaboratively across teams, adapts to changing priorities and provides sound policy advice grounded in real-world application

Qualifications and experience
You’ll bring:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in economics, planning, statistics, policy studies, public administration, or a related discipline (mandatory).
- Experience working with planning systems and data to support analysis, policy development and decision-making (desirable)
- Experience working with transport data and applying insights to inform strategic and policy outcomes (desirable).
