About the role 
As the Principal Insights and Data Analyst you’ll play a key role in driving evidence-based workforce decision-making across the Department. As a senior specialist, you’ll lead the design, development, and delivery of advanced workforce analytics, dashboards, and reporting to inform strategic workforce planning and organisational performance.


You will translate complex workforce data into clear insights, provide expert advice to senior leaders, and ensure data integrity and governance across systems. Working collaboratively with ICT, Finance and HR teams, you’ll help deliver a single source of truth for workforce information and foster a culture of data-driven decision-making.


This role also provides leadership within the analytics function—mentoring analysts, embedding best practice, and driving continuous improvement in data reporting and insights.

Position Accountabilitie

  • Lead the development of enterprise-level workforce dashboards, reports, and data models (Power BI and related tools).
  • Conduct advanced analytics, including forecasting, modelling, and scenario analysis.
  • Ensure workforce data integrity, governance, and compliance with reporting standards.
  • Provide high-quality insights and advice linking workforce data to strategy and outcomes.
  • Partner across teams to integrate data systems and strengthen data capability.
  • Mentor and coach analysts, embedding consistency and innovation in reporting.

 

About You
You are an accomplished analyst with strong systems thinking and data literacy. You bring deep experience in workforce analytics, advanced visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI), and the ability to translate data into strategic insights. A natural collaborator and problem-solver, you excel at influencing stakeholders and driving improvement in how data informs decisions.

 

Qualifications and experience 
Mandatory 

  • Expertise in Power BI (advanced DAX, data modelling, enterprise dashboards, automation) 

 

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience in workforce analytics, reporting and insights in a large, complex organisation
  • Tertiary qualification in Data Analytics, HR, Business, Economics or a related discipline
  • Experience mentoring and uplifting capability in analytics teams is highly regarded
  • Strong knowledge of SuccessFactors (People Analytics, Story Reports) and/or SAP HR reporting modules, with experience in configuration, data extraction and governance
  • Sound understanding of data privacy, compliance and governance frameworks in the public sector
