About the role 

The Principal Solicitor leads a specialist legal team that provides clear, expert advice on complex property, land registration and water share matters. They make difficult and sensitive decisions, resolve disputes and support the Registrar on high-risk legal issues.

 

The role influences senior leaders, legal professionals, government stakeholders and service providers, while supporting the team to build skills and apply a consistent approach. Success means decisions are fair, accurate and consistent, the integrity of the land register is protected, legal and operational risks are reduced, and confidence in Victoria’s property system is strengthened..

Technical capabilities
– Statutory Interpretation (Accomplished) - Resolves complex statutory interpretation issues using expert legislative and legal knowledge.
– Legal Advice (Accomplished) - Independently provides complex legal advice and supervises others to ensure quality and consistency.

 

Qualifications and experience 

You’ll bring: 

  • Qualification in Law and admitted, or eligible for admission, as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria (mandatory)
  •  Excellent knowledge of the Electronic Conveyancing National Law (Victoria), Transfer of Land Act 1958, Subdivision Act 1988, Water Act 1989, Operating Requirements for electronic conveyancing, Participation
    Rules for electronic conveyancing, Registrar’s Requirements for conveyancing transactions and associated acts and regulations (desirable)
  •  5+ years’ post-admission experience (desirable)

 

Pre-employment checks and employment conditions

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa necessary for the nature of the position.
