About the role
The Principal Solicitor is a senior legal specialist responsible for resolving complex and sensitive land registration matters, exercising statutory powers as an Assistant Registrar of Titles, and providing expert advice to the Registrar. The role leads high-risk casework, informs policy and legislative reform, manages a team, and helps maintain the integrity of Victoria’s land register and property market.
The role requires high-level specialist expertise to manage complex, sensitive and contentious matters, using strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills. Key responsibilities include providing authoritative advice, addressing emerging strategic issues, and advising senior leaders on policy and operational solutions. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgement, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence outcomes in a complex environment.

Qualifications and experience
You’ll bring:
- Qualified legal practitioner admitted, or eligible for admission, as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria.
- Strong knowledge of Victorian land registration, conveyancing, and property legislation, including electronic conveyancing frameworks and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated post-admission legal experience (ideally 5+ years) in property, land registration, conveyancing, or related legal practice.

Relevant pre-employment screening and reference checks will be required.
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa necessary for the nature of the position.
