About the role 
The Principal Strategy Advisor supports the Department’s long-term strategy work on high-priority issues across transport and planning. Working with senior leaders and teams across the Department, the role leads strategic workstreams by defining complex problems, facilitating workshops, analysing information and developing practical strategy outcomes.
The role identifies priority topics, conducts complex analysis and develops clear written strategy products. It builds strong stakeholder relationships, works through competing interests to find common ground, and manages projects from planning through to delivery. The role also supports a safe, inclusive and flexible team environment.

You’re someone who: 

  • Thinks critically and strategically, using multiple perspectives to solve complex problems and deliver practical, lasting outcomes.
  • Uses data effectively to identify insights, inform decisions and support evidence-based strategy and planning.
  • Translates strategy into well-governed projects and programs, defining outcomes, responsibilities, measures and approaches to manage risk.
  • Takes a future-focused approach, anticipating change, exploring new technologies and helping the organisation prepare for future needs.
  • Communicates with impact and builds strong collaboration across teams and stakeholders, tailoring advice and messages to different audiences.

Qualifications and experience 

You’ll bring: 

  • Tertiary qualification or extensive experience in an analytical or technical field (mandatory).
  • Experience working with complex and diverse datasets to generate strategic insights (mandatory).
  • Experience applying problem structuring and analytical approaches, with knowledge and experience in Transport and/or Planning desirable.
