About the role 

The Project Manager Rail Standards leads a program to develop and update rail standards across Victoria’s transport system. They plan and track projects, manage risks, and ensure strong reporting and governance. The role works closely with internal experts, rail operators like Metro, V/Line and Yarra Trams, and senior leaders to align priorities and deliver outcomes. They support teams, coordinate advisory groups, and improve processes. Success means the development and publication of clear, consistent standards that support a safer, more reliable and efficient transport network, and stronger collaboration across the sector.

You’re someone who:

  • Enjoys leading projects that improve rail standards and deliver real-world outcomes.
  • Can plan and deliver programs end-to-end, ensuring process-compliance, governance, risk management and performance reporting to relevant groups.
  • Can build strong relationships and work closely with stakeholders to achieve shared goals within reasonable timeframes.
  • Can identify improvements, use data to inform decisions, and drive better ways of working.
  • Can collaborate across teams, support others to grow, and apply strong technical knowledge of standards and compliance.

Qualifications and experience 

You’ll bring: 

  • Large-scale programme delivery experience. (desirable)
  • Experience with National Standards bodies such as Australian Rail Industry Standards Organisation - ARISO (formally the Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board - RISSB) or similar (desirable).
  • Experience in applying management plans and/or governance for technical activities. (desirable)
