Network Design and Integration is a Group within the Department of Transport and Planning and isresponsible for delivering transport priorities through the planning, development and maintenance of an integrated pipeline of projects and strategic initiatives that provide safe, efficient and sustainable outcomes for all Victorians. The Digital Train Radio System (DTRS)  is part of the Asset Communication Strategy within the Department of Transport and Planning’s Rolling Stock & Ticketing (RST) division and is responsible for all asset communications systems management.

About the Role

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 3 years. 

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Project Engineer - DTRS is responsible for the project delivery coordination and technical and document management of Digital Train Radio System (DTRS) projects. Ideal candidates would have industry and/or operations experience from the rail, road, defence, aviation or similar domains.

Position Outcomes /Accountabilities 

  • Provide high-level project, technical and administrative support to the Senior Project Manager, DTRS including project coordination, project governance, technical and general administrative support to improve communication and organisation of the project.
  • Champion the use of document control within the Project Team to facilitate the design review process, including the distribution of documents to subject matter experts, collation and transmittal of comments (internally and externally), and adherence to contractual timelines.
  • Be the go-to for questions on team processes. Promote the use of correct document and information management processes and procedures, including the development of guidance and training materials for the Project Team.
  • Provides effective internal and external stakeholder support to ensure the project’s requirements are met and stakeholders are kept informed.

Key Selection Criteria 

In this dynamic role, you’ll play a critical part in coordinating project activities, maintaining governance standards, and ensuring effective document and information management. Your ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and stakeholders will be essential in delivering high-quality outcomes.

To be successful, you’ll bring demonstrated expertise in project coordination, document control, and team-based delivery. You are highly skilled in using Microsoft Office and have experience managing digital records and databases, with knowledge of Content Manager being an advantage. Your strong planning and organisational skills enable you to set clear goals, prioritise effectively, and adapt to shifting project demands with confidence.

This role requires a self-motivated professional who takes initiative, follows through on commitments, and manages competing priorities with efficiency. You will build strong relationships, contribute to a positive team culture, and consistently deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications and Experience

Mandatory

  • Engineering qualifications.
  • Experience gained from industry as a supplier and/or operations within the rail, road, defence or similar domains.
