About the role
*This is a Fixed Term Position until June 2029*
The Project Officer, Process Improvement supports the delivery and implementation of efficient, user-focused People and Culture (P&C) systems, processes, policies and guidance. The role contributes to process improvement initiatives across the employee lifecycle, enhances the design and delivery of P&C activities, and delivers manager-enabling tools to improve capability and self-service. Using established methodologies and data-informed insights, the role provides practical guidance, collaborates across the department, and ensures high-quality, coordinated outcomes in line with organisational standards and governance.
Key Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will demonstrate strong project delivery capability, coordinating tasks, guiding others and monitoring progress to ensure outcomes are achieved on time and to plan. They will take a forward-looking approach, aligning their work with broader organisational priorities, embracing new technologies and continuously improving processes to deliver better results.
Success also relies on collaborating effectively across teams and communicating clearly and concisely, building shared understanding and strong working relationships to drive collective outcomes.

Position accountabilities
The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to support the continuous improvement of People and Culture systems, processes and services. This role contributes to the delivery of practical process improvement initiatives across the employee lifecycle, helping enhance the efficiency, consistency and effectiveness of core activities such as performance and misconduct management. You will work closely with stakeholders to identify issues, analyse processes and support the design and implementation of user-friendly solutions that make it easier for managers and employees to navigate People and Culture services.
Using improvement methodologies, you will assist with developing tools and resources that build capability, including guidance materials, process documentation and manager-enabling solutions. The role requires strong written communication skills to translate policy and procedural requirements into clear, accessible information that supports self-service and understanding.
Success in this position relies on building positive working relationships across People and Culture, corporate and business teams, demonstrating accountability and consistently delivering high-quality work within agreed timeframes and governance frameworks.
Qualifications and experience
- Sound understanding of employee lifecycle processes and HR service delivery.
- Tertiary qualifications in human resources, business, public administration or a related field are desirable.

All new appointments to the department will be subject to a National Criminal Records Check, Misconduct Screening, and a Qualification Check where there is a requirement for a mandatory qualification. Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa necessary for the nature of the position.
